About Hafren Architecture
Hafren Architecture is based in the foothills of Adelaide, in the historic Glen Coola building of the Abergeldie House wellness precinct. Projects are Australia-wide and also overseas.
Formerly known as ‘Lucy Crawford Architecture’, we have been creating residential and public spaces since 2001. Many of our projects are in natural landscapes, rural areas, or environmentally sensitive locations. We also work on a range of projects in community and educational settings and urban landscapes.
Hafren Principal and Director, Lucy Crawford-Sandison, is a registered architect in South Australia . After graduating from Cambridge University, UK, with Masters in Architecture in 1995, and also from University of Adelaide in 1997, a core direction of her design experience came through collaborating with Troppo Architects SA. This included work as a Senior Architect on projects exhibited at the UNESCO world Sustainability award in 2010, and the Retreat at Cape D’Estaing (AIA GOLD award). Lucy also has many years of experience in working with heritage buildings, construction management and sanctuary spaces, in particular through work with Pauline Hurren (Stirling), and the National Trust of SA.
Lucy was a guest speaker at the first international Multi-faith space conference in the UK 2012, contributing her knowledge on sanctuary and sacred space. Her work in Waldorf school architecture, organic architecture, sacred space and multi-faith space has been published widely in magazines, and forconferences, including recently for ‘Mench + Architeckur’. Lucy offers sanctuary space workshops to businesses and the public sector.
Hafren means sunlight in water, but that’s a story for another day!
